In 1975, FUSA established and became trustee of the Australian Shevchenko Trust (AST), a registered Australian charitable trust. The AST provides financial assistance to persons intending to promote knowledge of Ukraine through formal programs and research projects conducted at universities or other tertiary institutions. FUSA also provides grants, scholarships and prizes to undergraduates and post graduate students. In the 1970s FUSA organised numerous seminar programs at Australian universities.and In 1984 the Ukrainian Studies Centre at Macquarie University in Sydney was opened. FUSA also supports Ukrainian studies programs and projects at Monash University in Melbourne and other institutions such as state libraries and museums. FUSA has published and funded various books and films. It has organised presentations and other events and projects which further knowledge of Ukrainian history, language, literature, political science, art, literature and civilisation.
